Ashas will remain all Nokia, says Elop

Nokia Unveils 3 Full Touch Low Cost Asha Phones Nokia Asha 305, Nokia Asha 306 and Nokia Asha 311

Elop confirmed on a interview that Ashas will remain to be all about Nokia and Windows Phone will simply not reach them.

We do do want people to move to more advanced products, but because of costs this wont happen in this case. And it suits us well. – Elop

It certainly does as Asha line is what keeps Nokia’s mobile business on float at the moment.
According to Elop there are still problems with increasing data usage even on Ashas, though thanks to clever data packaging Ashas are already much more efficient than other phones. Elop also believes that the future of mobile phone business will lie mostly in mass markets.

I have to draw from the leaked picture from yesterday that is supposed to represent Ashas future. Most of us can agree that on its current form Ashas will have hard time against cheaper and cheaper Android phones so if the above is more than just far out research project i’m hopeful to see it come reality in not too distant future.

S40 was never going to be competitive LT, management knows that, Meltemi was the sol’n but they didn’t want it to be, instead they’ll ride it out with S40, & at the same time they’ll stubbornly try to squeeze WP further & further down into S40 territory. Good luck with that one.
