Elop says no to hardware QWERTY phones in the near future

At the end of the Nokia announcements there was a short Q&A where one of the questions happened to be about hardware qwerty phones. We have on a previous Elop interview just couple of months ago heard about Elop himself saying he is personally fan of qwerty phones and Nokia is looking at the qwerty space if there’s demand for it.

This time though the answer was much more straightforward. According to Elop the trend of qwerty phones is going down and he reminded that Nokia has for years been the largest manufacturer of qwerty phones. Declining trend goes for high end models, but this has just recently also escalated in countries like Indonesia that are big on low end qwerty phones. According to Elop there’s no plans for qwerty phone as of now.

So don’t expect qwerty phone from Nokia in 2013 for the very least.

Yea, if there is no supply, there is no demand either. What did Nokia say about the touch screen phones in the past… :-)
Seriously, I would be more than happy to see similar keyboard covers for the Lumia series which have now appeared with tablet computers, including iPad as well as Surface. I am typing this text with my laptop and with the touch screen devices the ooh-so-slow-motion tapping each character one by one and missing 1/3 of them is just a painful productivity killer. So, when I receive my Lumia 920 soon, I will start experimenting with different external Bluetooth keyboards.
