I was hesitant at first to write about this at all because to me this sounds more about Golla just wanting to get press, but here it goes. Finnish mobile phone accessory maker Golla is suing Jolla over the use of similar name. Golla justifies this because the brand has existed 12 years and they have spent over 2 million euros at registering the brand. Golla even says that they have not closed the possibility to make mobile phones at some point.
Jolla in a other hand reminds that the trademark has been properly registered in Finland.
The approval authority has dealt with Golla and Jolla brands and found that they are not too close to each other. No, we do not believe there is a risk that customers will confuse Jolla phone to Golla bags. - Antti Saarnio, Chairman of the Board at Jolla
Jolla will need to officially answer to the subpoena by February 11th.
Jolla meaning dinghy in Finnish somebody fittingly mentioning that it has been a while when he last saw somebody sailing on a golla.
