Finnish Tekniikka and Talous has received information from an old Nokia boss about future Nokia tablet and the past tablets developed inside Nokia.
Nokia is at the moment developing Windows 8 tablet in California, but he did not know if the tablet was ARM or X86 version. Apparently the tablet is being done partly by same people as Booklet 3G. Nokia’s head of design, Ahtisaari did tell us months ago already much of his time going towards Nokia’s tablet. He did not specify what the OS was though.
Tekniikka and Talous also contacted another source that told the tablet is not being announced in today’s event. Something that seems very likely as today’s event is shaping to be not just announcement of Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 line, but also the full announcement of Windows Phone 8. Suddenly announcing Nokia Windows 8 tablet in this NYC event would seem a bit out of place.
This same source continues that Nokia even had tablet in it’s labs way before iPad that had Symbian inside. Nokia didn’t see market for it because of the manufacturing costs would have put it in the price range of the current laptops at the time.
Furthest Nokia got to almost announce tablet was with Meego and Meltemi inside. MeeGo tablet was actually internal device that existed and it had UI from N9 to fit the tablet size.
