Verizon to offer Nokia Windows Phone 8 handset says Bloomberg

Only thing surprising at this point would be if Bloomberg had said that Nokia would not be announcing handset for Verizon this year.

Verizon Wireless plans to sell a new Nokia phone with Microsoft Corp. Windows 8 software this year, marking the first time it has released a Windows device since May 2011, a person with knowledge of the matter said. – Bloomberg

Apparently Verizon wont be part of the big Microsoft and Nokia announcement happening September 5th so it’s possible there will be separate announcement for that.
Earlier rumors are pointing Nokia at releasing their high end device via Verizon while HTC will be offering the mid range device.

It’s looking good if Nokia manages to have rage of devices with it’s older Lumia partner AT&T as well. That would mean Nokia would have it’s flagship phone available from the North America’s two largest operators.
According to Bloomberg Verizon looking to lessen it’s dependence on iPhone by pushing Windows Phone forward that should help Nokia actually sell Windows Phones.
