Nokia’s Asha line buys more time for Nokia’s Windows Phone strategy

Seems like i wasn’t too off the mark when Asha S40 touch phones were announced saying they are the most exciting Nokia products released this year so far.

Just like Nokia’s dual SIM phones that sold 18 million in Q3 2011 saving that quarters result, it’s possible that Nokia’s new S40 all touch phones could make a positive impact.

The more stock that comes in the more my sales go up and it’s even cannibalizing into other brands. With the touch screen, the balance is tilting toward Nokia now. - Sathish Babu, owner of Univercell with about 500 outlets

Also a rare quote from Nokia’s Skillman.

People forget how significant it is that we’re selling a million phones a day. There’s almost a myopic focus on smartphones. – Peter Skillman, head of mobile-phone design at Nokia

It won’t last, they won’t be able to re-adapt it readily enough to compete in the next few yrs* (management’s aware of this), at which point they’ll squeeze WP down there too.
Possibly Android or both, but more likely WP only…..

    *Meltemi would’ve avoided this.
