I must have missed this but it seems like Nokia Maps web version is now available in 3D. Glasses are still mandatory but according to Nokia it’s more of limitation of technology, not limitation of Nokia Maps.
We have the technology,” claims Brenner. “We can plug this into any technology. If someone wants to provide a screen without 3D glasses, we have everything. We can make it happen tomorrow. – pocketlint
Nokia also reminds us that Google Maps’s 3D version is made by a 3rd party, while 3D Nokia Maps are totally made by Nokia. This will let Nokia be more flexible with it’s partners who wanna use this feature. Why example CNN used this technology and Nokia Maps on their London 2012 Olympic Games coverage.
How about Nokia devices with this inside?
We can’t speculate about our future smart device units, but the space is open. If people think 3D is valuable, then maybe. – pocketlint
You can try out the 3D Nokia Maps in here: maps.nokia.com/webgl (the webgl version is the nicest web maps to use there is)
Thanks for the tip Janne
