Widget Runtime BETA – Run your favorite Web Widgets on N9

Here’s a new application available from Nokia Store for free. With Widget Runtime BETA you can run widgets created for Symbian or any W3C widget (example Opera and Tizen) or manage them.

The goal of Widget Runtime application is to allow MeeGo users to run locally installable web applications (also called widgets) as if they were native applications. Currently it supports running widgets created for Symbian WRT, plain W3C (including Tizen) and Opera platforms. Please note that the current version is still a BETA version and even though the core functionalities and compatibility have been carefully implemented, may suffer from random crashes and API incompatibilities. – sviox

Here’s something to wait from the future versions of Widget Runtime.

As for future developement/roadmap, I’m right now working on separating widgets to run on their own processes (after that one crash shouldn’t kill all windows) and also trying to create some sort of plugin API for extending support to new standards and JS APIs. Also, I would want to create support for Symbian WRT platform services and WAC2.x platform services at some point. – sviox
