Metro was apparently just a codename for Microsoft’s UI, true name revealed this week

This came a bit out of nowhere.  News started circulating today that Microsoft will be scrapping Metro name.
Metro interface can be found from Zune HD, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Xbox… well pretty much any current and incoming Microsoft product.
According to The Verge Microsoft will announce the “real name” for the user interface later this week. This decision to scrap Metro name was lead by “discussions with an important European partner”. Who might that be?

To me the Metro name has made sense and sounded great so not really sure what this is all about. I guess it will make sense (or not) by the end of this week as the new name is supposedly introduced.

All this really isn’t a big deal as consumers wont likely care for the name of the user interface, but the interesting part is why was the name changed and will the new name have some deeper meaning.

UPDATE:

Appearantly reason behind this name change could be legal complications. Reason that would make this name change more understandable, while unfortunate.

Thanks for pointing this out Shovon Mustafa
