Nokia is releasing update for 808 PureView to fix Purple Tint issue some are having

Some have unfortunately pumped into some purple tint problems on their Nokia 808 PureView displays. Thankfully according to Nokia this is a software issue and will be fixed on future update, stated on Nokia’s site.

Maybe Nokia could include it on the coming Belle FP2 update?

We have been made aware of an issue where the displays on some Nokia 808 PureView units are exhibiting purple discolourations. This phenomenon is due to performance restrictions of AMOLED displays in certain brightness conditions. However, we have identified the root cause and are currently working on a software update that will deliver improvements.

Short-time purple discolourations (purple tint) on the display can be seen in the type of AMOLED displays used in the Nokia 808 PureView in the following situations:
- In dark room conditions, when the display is automatically adjusted to lower luminance level to maximize dark room readability
- In bright sunlight, when the phone’s display is automatically adjusted to maximum luminance to enable the best possible readability
- If a user wakes up the phone from dimmed mode, a purple tint can be seen as a transition effect when changing the display brightness

If you are one of those having purple tint issues Nokia is recommending you to use maximum brightness option to improve colour tones. You can access the option on your 808 PureView by going to: Settings–>Display–>Brightness and slide the brightness to maximum.

Many N9 owners reported this too, they should’ve released something similar for it ages ago!
Maybe they have in one of the major updates & I’ve missed it, but I don’t recall them doing that.

It’s related to AMOLED screens, but even so Nokia seems to have had this problem time after time.
I remember reading about the issue on N9 on the launch week when i bought my N9. It never got resolved? Can’t really remember too many people on Maemo.org back then complaining about it.

Yeah it was pretty common, still saw the odd person complain about it fairly recently, about 2mth back IIRC.
