@janole (as known in twitter) is well known in the Symbian circles as the creator of Gravity, maybe the best app in Symbian. Even so it seems janole is being kicked out from Nokia’s dev program, no matter what he has done previously.
Nokia has been sending letter and even free Lumia’s to old Symbian and MeeGo developers previously with some following that road and some not.
Janole has been one of the developers who have not followed Nokia to Windows Phone and it seems like as of today many of the Nokia Symbian developers will be kicked out of the whole developer program if they have not switched sides.
Before we get too riled up, we don’t really know the backgrounds of this all and what are the criteria for being kicked out from Nokia’s dev program. So far we only have handful of people.
Also the question remains will this affect MeeGo developers or is it only Symbian developers? No information about that yet.
Some rambling by be
This is following the thought process i have had since Nokia informed about Symbian’s being killed by 2016. Nokia’s word where that they will support Symbian till 2016, though i don’t think all understood back then just how vague those words where and how much moving room they left for Nokia.
Nokia has some legal obligations no doubt to keep the devices running, but supporting Symbian truly just means keeping some of the infrastructure running (note that this doesn’t mean software updates) and Nokia still training people to fix your phone. Actual death of Symbian might be way closer than you think.
Something that is mirrored on Elop’s comment after Q1 2012 report that Nokia is to speed up the transition process.
