First time Nokia is commenting anything about Jolla, company based mostly of old Nokia employees and software much influenced by Nokia.

Nokia created something wonderful – the world’s best smartphone product. It deserves to be continued, and we will do that together with all the bright and gifted people contributing to the MeeGo success story. – Jolla
There has been speculation that Jolla would find problems working so close to Nokia’s backyard, Jolla has assured that patents wont be a problem for them.
It’s good to remember that Nokia has been helping a lot of people who left Nokia in a form of investments, help for start ups and even some patent deals.
Jolla has said multiple times that it wants to be independent, though it’s likely Nokia has given some kind of help to get things starting as well.
