First we have some talk about the immense interest Jolla caused when it announced it’s existence and what they are here to do. After i posted: One single day and #JollaMobile has more followers than Tizen Project on Twitter, Jolla has already gathered 6801 followers in Twitter.
Hurmola wants to thank all the people for the feedback while being awestruck by all the positive comments.
How does Nokia take all this?
Quite many have asked this same question. I wanna thank Nokia . I have had 12 year career in Nokia and there are people who have been in the company for over 25 years now in Jolla, about half of our workforce are old Nokians.
Nokia created this bridge project that made sure that people leaving the company would not drop on nothing, but can continue to do what they do. So thanks a lot for that Nokia. Today we also had press release from Nokia saying there’s room for us both. - Jussi Hurmola
Did Nokia know that the development work will be continued?
It was about the project that that helped these new companies. So we did collaborate with Nokia. Information went to both directions. Though it’s another story how it all evolves, we could have not example anticipated reception like this. - Jussi Hurmola
Jolla is small company with only 50 people working on it. How can you develop a smartphone?
It’s a good question. Like Jolla name implies, we start with a small boat on a open sea. That said the industry we are entering to is game for the big. We can’t start as small so we will start building something sufficiently large that can claim it’s position in this industry.
I personally see Jolla’s position in such way that it makes possible in this time and technology advancement that something new can be created. Something substantial.Market has changed in such way that you can easily buy components from the shelf, reference platforms and internet services so you can build that all together relatively fast. We wont start from zero building this all. - Jussi Hurmola
Can you unveil what this new thing is? What will Jolla introduce to us?
When we are talking about hardware i can’t say anything just yet. We are a bit cautious as we also wanna deliver what we say and promise. We will announce devices this year.
We will bring new user experience and that’s one of the reasons why we chose MeeGo. We looked at Android and others. Android would have been the general, easy solution, but we could have only followed while others are in control. Essential to our business was that we can lead, MeeGo gives us possibility to lead in technology, design and possibility to create new user experience. - Jussi Hurmola
How will you assemble the phone?
Phones manufacturing will be done by our partners. There’s a lot of ODM’s and chipset vendors that will create that hardware so we can concentrate on how it all looks like, how it feels like. - Jussi Hurmola
From where are these ODM’s?
They are large international companies that will do this. Like we know, most of the stuff in this world is made in Asia. - Jussi Hurmola
Our intention is truly to be large in 2 years because to that point we can see what the market wants. - Jussi Hurmola
There wont be new Nokia. Nokia is an amazing company with immense history and Nokia will follow it’s own path. When we are talking about this industry in 10 years range, this business wont even exist anymore then. - Jussi Hurmola
