Yes, you did read it right, 15 million tablets. Turkey is in a process to modernize it’s school system and big part of that is 15 million tablets for the students. Last year the main competitors fighting for this deal where Apple and Microsoft.
Esko Aho (former Finnish prime minister and current Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Responsibility in Nokia) met yesterday with Turkish Industry Minister Nihat Ergun and according to Haberturk newspaper Nokia was asked to put a bid for these 15 million tablets. Auction for these tablets might go in the process in the next month or two.
What of course makes this interesting is that Nokia doesn’t have tablet out yet. If we are talking about Windows 8 tablets from Nokia the earliest announcement has been predicted to be in June (Nokia Connects) or Nokia World (September). With the size of this order it could be of course that it’s highly specialized cheaper tablet for this purpose, yet it seems like in Apple’s case the entry level iPad is the one bidded for this mass order.
